Learn 16 - Nicknames and Authentication

The proword for Authentication are…

  • AUTHENTICATE
  • I AUTHENTICATE
  • WRONG OUT

(1) Nicknames are two words used by Signals for the purpose of activating five communication drills. They are:

  • Changing of frequency
  • Imposing of radio silence
  • Breaking of radio silence
  • Lifting of radio silence
  • Closing down of a net

(2) When the two-words Nicknames is activated:

  • First station is to authenticate
  • All Stations are to readback the Nicknames so as to acknowledge and comply with the communication drills
  • Lastly, the initiating Station will ack with the Nicknames followed by OUT to indicate the start of the communication drill

Example:

  • HULLO all stations DELTA FOXTROT, this is A00, BLUE SPADE OVER.
  • B19 wait… AUTHENTICATE Bravo Three OVER.
  • A00 wait… I AUTHENTICATE Eight Three OVER.
  • B19, roger BLUE SPADE OVER.
  • C29, BLUE SPADE OVER.
  • D39, BLUE SPADE OVER.
  • A00, BLUE SPADE now, OUT.

When the authentication is wrong, the initiating station will reply WRONG OUT.

NOTE: Authentication is also used when:

  • Joining a Working Net
  • On a suspicious station
